The tawdry yarn, loosely scripted by Mark Behm, concerns a young American girl, daughter of a tycoon, who comes to London and gets involved with a group of young Chelsea layabouts known as the ‘Pack’, a disillusioned bunch which lives only for kicks.
Eventually the girl disappears after one of the wildest parties, and is found dead. How she met her death, the events leading up to it and immediately after, which involve a mock funeral, a hint of necrophilia and a young man’s suicide all merge into a pseudo-psychological and phony finale.
Performances are mostly routine, but there are a few that show distinct promise, notably Oliver Reed, as the arrogant, womanizing young misfit leader of the ‘Pack’, Clifford David, as a likeable American boy with a tricky role to which he brings a sense of humor, and Catherine Woodville, a standout as one of the few of the ‘Pack’ with any decent instincts left. Louise Sorel as the heroine is overly fey.
